With the 2012 established fund, the Swiss Lung Association together with the Swiss Respiratory Society and the Swiss Pediatric Respiratory Society supports since 2013 sixteen innovative research projects that focus on lung diseases, respiratory disorders and home therapy. The outcomes should, among others, contribute to medical progress in COPD prognosis, therapy and rehabilitation, to a better comprehension of the emergence of cystic fibrosis in infants, so as an improvement of tuberculosis diagnosis in infants. Other research projects focus on the risk of inhaled nanoparticles on the immune system, gene therapy options for patients with alpha 1 antitrypsin (AAT) deficiency, as well as the optimization of CPAP therapy. In 2016, the Research Fund will provide CHF 650'000.– for research projects in Switzerland.
The promotion focuses on research activities in the following fields:
- basic, clinical and transitional research in lung diseases and respiratory disorders
- social medicine/sciences, public health und health economics, related to lung diseases
- epidemiology, air pollution control and air quality, prevention, related to lung diseases
Applications for 2016 may be submitted from 18 January until 18 March 2016.
